Matthew “Tyler” Stubbs, 25, of Duluth, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon at the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, officials say. Investigators charged him with one count of electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor.
Besides his teaching duties, Stubbs is the Head Girls Soccer Coach at Flowery Branch High School.
In a statement released Wednesday, Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield says the school district was made aware of the allegations against Stubbs Tuesday morning.
“A female student reported to a teacher that Stubbs had sent inappropriate messages to her through a social media platform,” he says. “Stubbs was immediately placed on leave, and law enforcement was contacted.”
According to the preliminary investigation, on the morning of Saturday, March 6, Stubbs sent the photograph to the female victim via Snapchat. The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says the victim, 16, was one of his students.
The sheriff’s office has taken the lead in the investigation. “The school has taken appropriate steps to provide support for the student,” Schofield says.
The Hall County School District hired Stubbs in May 2020. As of Wednesday morning, he remained in the Hall County Jail.
