Former Board Member Endorses Newcomer to Board of Education Position | #Education

To the Editor:

I write to endorse Jessica Levitt for the Bridgewater-Raritan Board of Education.  It is hard to imagine that a newcomer to the board could be more qualified, or more ready to hit the ground running, than Jessica is.

During my 12 years on the board of education, there were occasional meetings where a controversial issue brought hundreds of people into the room to express their opinions, vent their frustrations or offer their recommendations.  Unfortunately, though, most meetings were sparsely attended, with just a few regulars in the audience.  Those regulars consisted almost exclusively of district administrators and BREA reps.

Jessica was one of the few exceptions.  During my last two years on the BOE, Jessica attended almost every meeting. She frequently came to the podium to address a wide variety of matters, ranging from health and safety to curriculum to budget to facilities to board procedures.  She did so politely, articulately, and constructively.  What’s more, she was knowledgeable about the issues because she was so involved in the schools, in addition to her service on various District committees.  And she came prepared, having read the agenda and the proposed action items in advance, and often having done some independent research.

The time and effort Jessica has dedicated to supporting the district uniquely positions her to serve the community and its children on the BOE.  I urge you to join me in voting for Jessica Levitt for the board of education.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Brookner

B-R BOE member, 2007–19
