SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Tyquan Jones was shot to death three days before his 16th birthday.
Jones, also known as “Tadoe,” was one of the three teenagers shot around 5:20 p.m. Friday inside a car at the corner of Midland Avenue and West Newell Street on Syracuse’s South Side, city police have said. After the shooting, the three drove to 2363 Valley Drive for help, where they met with police. Jones died later that night at Upstate University Hospital. He was 15.
Detectives are still searching for suspects and continuing to investigate. Anyone with information can call Syracuse police at (315) 442-5222.
Meanwhile, the Syracuse City School District’s crisis response team will be available for students and staff, district spokesman Michael Henesey said. School counselors, social workers, psychologists and other student support service providers also will be there for those mourning the teen’s death.
Jones’ two friends who also were shot are expected to survive. One of the teens posted on Facebook that he was shot three times and needed surgery. The other teen posted that his foot was hurting and he was in pain, but missing Jones — especially on his birthday. Police have not released the names of the other two teens shot.
On what would have been his 16th birthday Monday, friends turned to social media to wish Jones a happy birthday.
“It Sad You ant Get To See Your 16 Birthdayy But u In A Better Placee Noww,” one friend wrote on his Facebook page.
“Happy 16th Birthday Ty Today Is Your Day, I’m Going Too Miss You Dearly #RIH Gone But NEVER Forgotten,” another friend wrote.
“SCREAMIN HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
