@GopherSports: Gopher Athletics is asking Minnesota to “Mask Up”. The latest episode in the Minnesota Proud series focuses on former Gopher student-athletes participating in the fight against COVID-19. Swimming’s Lindsey Kozelsky and Gymnastics’ Ivy Lu are Minnesota’s two nominees for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year award. Football’s Casey O’Brien helped surprise a recent high school graduate with a trip to Hawaii as part of the Wishes & More organization. New Soccer assistant coach Maya Hayes was a three-time All-American at Penn State and played professionally before beginning her coaching career. Get to know her in this Q&A. Following the Big Ten’s announcement of conference-only schedules, the 2020 Roy Griak Invitational has been canceled. Men’s Basketball was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with its Team Academic Excellence Award.

Six current and former Gopher Soccer student-athletes joined Equal Time Soccer to preview the NWSL Challenge Cup. Patricia Ward and Arianna Delmoral were guests on the Equal Time Soccer podcast. @GopherSwimDive: Former Gopher Tevyn Waddell reflected on helping Minnesota’s 200 Medley Relay team win a Big Ten Championship. After earning a spot in next week’s 3M Open, current Gopher Angus Flanagan will be joined in the field by alums Tom Lehman and Erik van Rooyen. Erik van Rooyen joined fill-in host Mike Grimm on this week’s Golden Gopher Podcast. Phil Steele Publications unveiled its preseason All-Big Ten teams with seven Gophers recognized. Tanner Morgan is one of 30 quarterbacks on the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award watch list. Junior running back Mohamed Ibrahim has been named a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award. Junior receiver Rashod Bateman has been named to the preseason Biletinkoff Award watch list. Former Gopher All-American Rachel Banham is preparing for her Minnesota Lynx debut later this month when the WNBA begins play. Former Gopher and NFL receiver Ron Johnson filled in for Justin Gaard on KFAN and provided plenty of Gopher talk this past Sunday. Nineteen Gopher alums are taking part in NHL training camps. The season is scheduled to resume on August 1. Former Gopher and current Northern Michigan head hockey coach Grant Potulny was a guest on The Rink Live podcast.

Women’s Hockey has announced that Grace Zumwinkle, Emily Brown, Olivia Knowles and Taylor Wente will serve as captains in 2020-21. Women’s Hockey’s Taylor Heise reflected on the recruiting process that led her to Minnesota. Former Softball standout Sara Groenewegen is planning to be a part of a new pro fastpitch league that will award individual points to players as part of the games.

@StAnthonyCC: Former Gopher runner Stacey Hutton has been named head cross country coach at St. Anthony Village High School.
