About 10 a.m. Nov. 24, officers were sent to the Target store at the Serramonte Shopping Center after loss prevention officers there caught Rosalina Medina, 34, of Oakland and her daughter shoplifting, police said. The duo were accompanied by the mother’s infant daughter.
Security saw Medina and 11-year-old hiding merchandise in a shopping bag and then confronted them as they were leaving the store.
“The mother told the loss prevention officers they could not arrest her daughter because she was only 11 years old,” police said.
As security tried to detain the girl, “the mother told the juvenile to fight the officers and run,” police said. “The juvenile bit one of the loss prevention officers on the shoulder.”
Medina fled the store with her infant daughter — leaving the 11-year-old behind and remains at large. Alameda County Child Protective Services took custody of the 11-year old girl.
