Presidential debate in Ohio
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump stop at Joint Base Andrews on their way to Cleveland, Ohio for the presidential debate against Democratic rival Joe Biden at the Sheila and Eric Sampson Pavilion. Members of the Trump family and White House aide Hope Hicks are among a large group that travels with Trump to Ohio aboard Air Force One. Biden and Trump are tested before the debate but do not wear masks during the event.

Rally in Minnesota
Trump arrives in Minnesota for a fundraiser at a private residence — reportedly, at the home of Cambria CEO Marty Davis in Shorewood, Minnesota. That night, he holds a campaign rally outdoors in Duluth, Minnesota. Hicks is photographed walking closely with White House senior advisor Jared Kushner before they arrive in Minnesota. Later that evening, Hicks starts to feel sick and isolates herself.

Fundraiser in New Jersey
Hope Hicks tests positive for the coronavirus.
President Trump flies to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey for a roundtable and private fundraiser. That evening, he announces on Twitter that he and the First Lady are being tested for the coronavirus.

Quarantine at White House
Just before 1 a.m., President Trump announces he and the First Lady have tested positive for the coronavirus. His Friday activities — including an intelligence briefing, a roundtable and a trip to Florida for a campaign rally — are all canceled.
