The Neah-Kah-Nie High School boys varsity basketball team assembled in the locker room before the game to go over strategy. The Pirates were restless and fooling around, expected after a two-hour bus ride from Rockaway Beach, a small town on the Oregon coast, to Gaston, an even smaller town in Washington County, to face the Greyhounds.

“Listen up,” shouted Coach Erick White.
