Incumbent Board of Education Trustee, Up For Reelection, Charged with DWI | #Education

BELLEVILLE, NJ – A NJ Board of Education Trustee was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and DWI within 1,000 ft. of a school after being found asleep in her vehicle just after midnight Tuesday.

Erika Jacho, who has served on the Belleville Board of Education since 2017, was found slumped over the steering wheel of her running vehicle on Joralemon St. It was found across the street from Belleville School No. 7. The school is an elementary school.

The car vehicle was parked and running, blocking the eastbound lane of the street, near a popular bar. There is nothing to suggest that she was in that establishment prior to the incident.

Jacho was transported to the Belleville Police Department where she remained in police custody until the time she was released, shortly before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Along with the DWI charges, Jacho was charged with refusing to submit to a chemical test, and parking within 10 ft. of a fire hydrant.
