A Lamar Consolidated ISD kindergarten teacher has been arrested and charged with indecency with a child, the district confirmed Thursday.

Troi Moore, a Tamarron Elementary School teacher, was arrested Tuesday and charged with the second-degree felony of indecency with a child/sexual contact, court records show. The charges stem from an alleged interaction at the school, according to a statement released by Lamar CISD.

“Lamar CISD received a report of an inappropriate interaction between a male kindergarten teacher and a student on October 11, 2021,” the district statement reads. “The teacher was immediately suspended as the Tamarron Administration and Lamar CISD Police Department opened an investigation.”

Moore began working in the district in August 2020.

“Prior to being hired by Lamar CISD, Moore presented positive recommendations from another area school district and successfully passed a required criminal history investigation,” the district statement said.

District officials said they are cooperating with police as the investigation continues.

Counselors and additional support staff will be available to students at Tamarron Elementary and the campus principal, Mark Melendez, will be available to meet with families, the district said.
