A small group of moms got together to create some unforgettable memories for the 2021 Lindy High School Class. The challenge of COVID 19 was not going to keep these dedicated residents from celebrating a homecoming parade tradition. “The kids need to have fun and enjoy their senior year,” says Ann Randazzo, one of the committee members who worked so hard to make the parade a reality. The School District and committee worked with Legislator Kevin McCaffrey and the Village of Lindenhurst to arrange for the parade, which tied up traffic for just a little while along Wellwood Avenue through the heart of town. Fire trucks roared to mark the opening of the school season. After the event, the students met at the Lindy gazebo to eat in the open-air area that allows for safe social distancing and tables to eat comfortably. Music was provided by Joe Chiarelli, another Lindy dad and resident donating his time. Melanie Sesto, who chaired the event, recounted a student who stopped to thank her, and her eyes filled with tears as the student said, “this almost makes us feel normal”. “It’s been a difficult season for athletes who did not get to play, but we’ll get through it, making memories like these,” she said. As always, the Lindenhurst School District Superintendent Dan Giordano and High School Principal Candace Brodie are striving to make sure this class receives the most comprehensive educational experience that Lindenhurst is known for. Lindy Pride.
