Live updates as ‘Kill the Bill’ protest brings traffic to a halt in Bristol city centre | #College. | #Students

Two protests are scheduled to take place in the centre of Bristol today (Saturday, January 15).

Both a ‘Kill the Bill’ demonstration and Youth Climate march will ‘swarm’ several locations in the city this afternoon, starting at College Green from around 12pm.

The ‘swarming’ technique sees groups of people temporarily block a road for a period of time (reported to be seven minutes at seven-minute intervals).

From what we understand, the Youth Climate march will begin at 12pm on College Green and will last for around two hours.

While the ‘Kill the Bill’ demonstration will gather on College Green at 1pm and begin its march at 3pm.

There will also be talks from speakers (set to commence at 2pm) and a peace vigil back at College Green at 4pm.

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that they have plans in place ahead of the protests, while Stagecoach West and First Bus have said they will be running their usual services – a diversion will be put in place by First Bus to avoid College Green.

The service will instead take passengers via Anchor Road and Jacobs Wells Road between 12:30pm and 5pm.

We will bring you all the latest updates on this as we get it.
