Local hair salon making a buzz to end child abuse

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and De Novo Salon in Pensacola is raising money for a local children’s advocacy center.
They are hosting their first Cut-A-Thon on Saturday and all proceeds are going to Gulf Coast Kid’s House and ChildHelp.
Stylists are ecstatic about the benefit.
Lauren Fennell-Cutter, owner of De Novo Salon, said, “We’ve always wanted to be more involved with the community and when this came the opportunity for this to be National Child Abuse Awareness Month and the fact that we have Gulf Coast Kid’s House right in our neighborhood, we really wanted to take the opportunity to give back.”
Benefits like Cut-A-Thon are important to the Gulf Coast Kid’s House because the majority of their funding comes from the community.
Megan Chapman, Outreach and Development Director of Gulf Coast Kid’s House, said, “There’s a very generous community here that really takes us on and has us benefiting from a number of different events. Anything from cook-offs to hair cutting events to a lot of other things. There are really creative folks out there.”
The funds go to programs and services to help their clients, like the family advocacy and prevention program, along with other general operating costs.
Chapman said, “April is really a special time for us because we are out in the community so much and we are interacting with the community, feeling that engagement with these wonderful people who are the people making our work possible.”
The Cut-A-Thon will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and no appointment is necessary.
