Local Teens Spend Time Holiday On Not Off – Free Press of Jacksonville | #socialmedia | #children

While teens busy their holiday vacation days with social media and telephones, the youth of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.  Delta Delta Chapter Youth Group Kudos (males) and Xinos (females), are learning how to enrich themselves and the community.

Their monthly meeting was held for a day of holiday fun and workshops on financial literacy. They also prepared snack-packs for the Szulzbacher Center to support the chapter’s Hearts for Children initiative.

The workshop consisted of budgeting basics and interactive activities covering earning, spending, saving, borrowing and formulation of personal goals.  The teens  were actively engaged in scenarios about real life situations that challenged them to make decisions on how they will spend their earnings. Upon completion of the workshop, students received a $25 voucher to open a new savings account with Community First Credit Union.

“Our youth group always stays on task to serve the community, the snacks are intended to fill up the children bellies throughout the winter break and learning and setting financial goals is a must for youth today,” said member Lillian Porter.

Derived from the Greek language, the Xinos and Kudos name symbolizes “the greatest” and are guidance groups for male and females in grades 9 through 12.  Chapters seek to provide the youth groups with positive role models and mentors that will encourage them towards high academic, moral/social values and culturally enriching experiences through participation in activities that foster high standards. Assisting the youth groups are the Hub Parents – a parents, grandparents and guardians support group.

The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated is a professional organization of women in the field of education.
