The Eagles #18 Sydney Scott rips a shot at the Tyler Consolidated keeper #14 Briann Templeton who made a great save.


Both the Magnolia girls and boys soccer team topped the Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights in high school soccer action.

The Lady Eagles getting a late season start because of the corona-virus and limited numbers played well in all phases of the game in beating the Silver Knights 2-0 Oct. 7 on the NM Hydro Field.

With 3-matches under their belt without a victory and only a 0-0 tie in their last soccer match with these same Knights, used a solid defensive outing by a flock of Blue Eagles, and a swarming mid-field and a pair of unassisted goals by Gloria Hernandez in picking up its first win of the season.

MHS junior captain Emerson Barcus led the defense along with outstanding play by Katelyn Estep, Madeline Delaney and Bella Connor kept the Knights at bay with their outstanding play, while Marley Aliff kept the Knights off the score-board with 11-saves on 14 Tyler shots on goal.

However, we must not foget the little fire-cracker Ava Black along with Lexi Williams, Laci Scott and junior captain Sydney Scott all played a significant role in the Big Blue’s win. But, we must also give credit to Hailey Rice, Aubrey Ashenhart and Mikah Demarco in a fine performance too.

MHS coaches Jennifer Emch and Eric Piekarski put a nice team on the field for Magnolia, but a special shout at to the Knights junior goal-keeper Briann Templeton who swatted away 10-shots on 25 Blue Eagles shots, including a penalty kick, and to junior defensive and mid-field stopper Romana Rice who was the best player on the field all night.

Magnolia 9, Tyler 1

The MHS boys took down the Silver Knights soccer team 9-1 late September in a very contested match. Luke Hedrick scored the games first goal off an assist by Woodson London early in the first half, but the Knights stormed back and knotted the game up at 1-1 on a long 30′ goal by Brady Seckman.

Hedrick returned the favor to London off an assist by Hedick with a nice goal to give the Eagles the lead for good. Jonathan Snider off a feed by a London assist. Moments later, Hedrick picked up a hat-trick off an assist by Fernando Hernendez to close-out the first half with Magnolia on top, 4-1.

Snider scored his second goal of the game with London’s third assist of the night to open the second half, and Gavin Herrick got into the act with a goal. Snider added another goal, while Herdick put the exclamation point with his fourth goal off an assist by Kayden Jones.

The Tyler Consolidated keeper Stephen Yost made 16-saves on 35-shots at goal, while the Eagles Brady Renner turned away 3 on 7-shots on goal. There were many Eagles that excelled, but the defensive play by senior Sam Mensore was outstanding along with the play of captain Jacob Thorpe and Gavin Herrick was outstanding.
