GALESBURG — Authorities are investigating six alleged sexual assaults at The Villas of Carl Sandburg in which the victims said they were also drugged.

Galesburg police were called to the Carl Sandburg College campus on Sept. 30 after several women came forward and told college employees about six sexual assaults that occurred from late December of last year to Sept. 19.

The women, who are students at the college, said they were sexually assaulted by the same man at The Villas at Carl Sandburg during that time period and told officials they believe they were also drugged.

The Villas at Carl Sandburg, 3300 N. Henderson St., is a privately owned apartment complex for Sandburg community college students located near the campus.

The women later gave statements to police about the assaults.

A 19-year-old male from Normal was identified as a suspect.

Police were notified on Thursday the suspect had retained legal counsel and was unwilling to speak with officers.
