Man accused of receiving child pornography in Glendive

A man suspected of receiving child pornography on his computer in Glendive denied federal charges on Wednesday.

Shawn Michael Wentz, 27, pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging him with receipt of child porn. He also faces the forfeiture of a desktop computer and hard disk drive if convicted.

Prosecutor Cyndee Peterson said in court records that Wentz received child porn in Glendive from about Sept. 30, 2014, to June 11, 2015.

Wentz failed to appear on a summons for arraignment in April and was arrested on a federal warrant in Bozeman on Tuesday.

The maximum penalty for the child porn count is a mandatory minimum five years to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy Cavan ordered Wentz to remain in custody. The case will be heard by U.S. District Judge Susan Watters.
