Man arrested after attempting to abduct 2 children at Niagara Falls Cheerleading convention | #childabductors

A Niagara Falls man was arrested following an attempted child abduction at the Niagara Falls Convention Centre.

On April 10 at around 8:45 a.m., officers say they were called to the Convention Centre located on Stanley Avenue in Niagara Falls, where the Canadian Cheer All-star National Championships were taking place over the weekend of April 8-10.

Police say a food service station employee completed his shift and entered the public area of the Convention Centre where a coach saw him approach a 9-year-old girl and try to take her out of the building.

Officers say the coach intervened and a short time later, the man again tried to remove a 10-year-old girl from the building. He fled the scene when he saw coaches approaching him.

Police say neither child was physically injured and that the man and the children were not known to each other.

As a result of Niagra police’s investigation, 19-year-old Rodney Ababio of Niagara Falls was arrested on April 10 at 2:30 p.m. after returning to work at the Convention Centre.

He has been charged with abduction of a person under the age of 14.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, extension 1022200.
