CHEBOYGAN COUNTY, MI – A man is charged with domestic violence and child abuse after allegedly assaulting a person who has autism at a campground.
Michael Allen Griffith, 41, of Alanson, and the victim allegedly got into a fight at the campground. The victim sustained significant injuries.
Michigan State Police Gaylord Post troopers were dispatched around 10:40 p.m. for a report of a physical altercation at the campground. The victim and suspect had already been taken to McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital for medical treatment related to the incident.
The police investigation led to Griffith’s arrest. He is charged with one count of first-degree child abuse and one count of domestic violence third offense after an incident on Aug. 1 at a campground on M-68 in Ellis Township.
Griffith was arraigned on Aug. 21 in the 89th District Court in Cheboygan County. His bond was set at $5,000 cash surety. His next scheduled court appearance is Thursday, Aug. 27.
