A man was robbed at gunpoint near Rutgers University’s College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick early Sunday, authorities said.
The man was held up at about 1:20 a.m. near the corner of Wyckoff and Richardson streets — two blocks from College Avenue, Rutgers police said in a statement. The robbers forcibly took the man’s valuables and ran toward College Avenue.
The man is affiliated with the state university, though Rutgers police do not specify in alerts if a victim of a crime is a student or an employee.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call New Brunswick police at 732-745-5217.
The robbery took place several blocks from a shooting at a birthday party last weekend on Delafield Street that left two dead and seven hurt. Authorities haven’t announced any arrests but said none of the victims are Rutgers students.
Four shooting victims remained hospitalized, with one in critical condition as of Monday, officials said.
Both the shooting and robbery took place in an area usually filled with Rutgers students who live off-campus. Nearly all Rutgers classes are being taught remotely this semester due to the coronavirus pandemic. Dorms are almost entirely closed as well.
