A Markham music teacher who provided private lessons in his home faces a series of historical charges relating to sexual assaults against a child.

York Region police initiated an investigation into a man in December after a victim came forward to allege she was sexually assaulted during music lessons over a period of several years, from 2008 to 2016. It allegedly started when the girl was eight years old.

A suspect was arrested Jan. 7.

The accused, who has lived in Markham since 2011, has been teaching music lessons in his home for many years and investigators believe there may be additional victims.

The accused lived in Scarborough from 1997 to 2011. Prior to 1997, he lived in London, Ont.

Angus Wong, 48, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching involving a person under 16, and one count of sexual exploitation.

He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Newmarket on Feb. 23.
