Metea Valley High School student accused of cutting classmate with pocket knife during fight – Chicago Tribune | #students | #parents

A 16-year-old Metea Valley High School student is accused of cutting a classmate with a pocket knife during a fight in a school bathroom, officials said.

The teen has been charged with aggravated battery in a public place. He appeared at a hearing in DuPage County Thursday morning, where he was released to the custody of his parents on home detention, DuPage State’s Attorney’s Office officials said in a news release.

The teen is accused of approaching the other student regarding a vape pen the student allegedly stole from him, officials said. The two students went into a bathroom and allegedly began fighting when the teen is accused of pulling out a pocket knife and cutting the other student’s neck, abdomen and hands, according to the release.

Authorities became aware of the incident and called Aurora police, and the student who was injured was taken to a local hospital, officials said. The student has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The teen who was charged is due back in court June 9.
