Officials neither confirm nor deny accuracy of post
JOPLIN, Mo. – A post circulating on social media alleged that Children’s Haven in Joplin recently took in 25 girls under the age of 18 who had been rescued from a sex-trafficking ring.
In response, Stephanie Theis, Executive Director of Children’s Haven of Southwest Missouri, told us that she could not comment on the post, neither confirming or denying its accuracy. She stated that all of the people Children’s Haven works with are kept confidential for their protection. She declined an on-camera interview.
The organization did post on its Facebook page requesting donations of gift cards for food.
Theis emphasized that Children’s Haven is a reputable non-profit that works to protect children, prevent child abuse and neglect, reduce family stress and ultimately keep families together.
