#minorsextrafficking | Covenant Children’s to host child abuse awareness events throughout April

April is child abuse prevention month and Covenant Children’s Hospital will host some events throughout the next several weeks to draw attention to the problem and educate about regional statistics.

The first awareness event of the month is a Texas Go Blue for Child Abuse Awareness Day on Friday. The community is encouraged to wear blue.

There will be a special event on April 15 at the hospital, 4000 24th Street in Lubbock. There will be a special prayer and ribbon tying ceremony to honor victims of child abuse at 10 a.m. The hospital expects to tie 1,049 ribbons for confirmed victims within Lubbock County.

The last event of the month will be a Child Abuse Awareness conference on April 30.

The event is meant to be informative and could provide education credits for nurses, social workers, emergency medicine technicians, and law enforcement officials.

Covenant Children’s eighth annual Child Abuse Conference will be virtual and is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. It will include presentations on child abuse, sex trafficking, and addictive behaviors. Presentations are as follows:

Covenant Children’s CEO Dr. Amy Thompson will present the welcome/introduction.

A presentation titled “Prosecution of Crimes against Children” presented by K. Sunshine Stanek, Lubbock County Criminal District Attorney, will follow.
