A victim of R Kelly who claims she and the musician are engaged says that she is pregnant with his child.
Joycelyn Savage, 26, is Kelly’s long-term girlfriend; the 55-year-old was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
Savage moved out of her parent’s house and in with the disgraced singer in Chicago at the age of 17 in order to pursue a music career, and by 19 lost touch with her family before cutting ties with them.
She has frequently stood by the convicted sex trafficker, and at his trial wrote a letter to the judge before his sentencing describing herself as ‘Kelly’s fiance[e].’
The 26-year-old now has now released a 24-page eBook in which she claims she is pregnant with Kelly’s child – however the disgraced musician’s lawyer has flatly denied this.
Attorney Jennifer Bonjean told TMZ that Savage is ‘certainly not pregnant with R.Kelly’s child.’
She went on to say that Savage’s short book is not a tell-all memoir and added ‘people are just insane.’
In her eBook Love and Joy of Robert, released on 12 August, Savage released memoir Love and Joy of Robert of life in his ‘shadow,’ and says their relationship is ‘the best thing that’s ever happened to me.’
As seen by the Independent, she says she received an engagement ring in the post, and ‘months later’ began experiencing morning sickness.
‘I thought I had contracted Covid-19, but the most amazing news of all was that I was expecting,’ she said.
Savage wrote that she was happy but felt ‘incomplete’ without Kelly, adding: ‘Robert is extremely excited about the news that I am having a baby and feel sad that Robert will not be able to be here with us.’
During Kelly’s trial, Savage wrote a letter to Judge Ann Donnelly before he was sentenced where she calls herself Kelly’s fiancée and asks the judge for a lenient sentence.
She insisted she was ‘not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be’ and said her relationship with Kelly is ‘amazing.’
Gerald Griggs, attorney for Savage’s family, said at the time that thei daughter never made the engagement known.
He said that he finds it strange that Savage did not testify about it under oath, and that her family ‘strongly doubts’ the engagement.
However, they admit it’s not unusual that she wouldn’t tell them about the engagement, as she hasn’t spoken to them since she left to be with Kelly.
In June, Kelly was sentenced to 30 years behind bars after a six-week trial.
He had faced a life sentence for masterminding an elaborate scheme to entice and sexually exploit young aspiring singers and underage children.
Passing down sentencing, Judge Donnelly said that he had used his ‘minions’ to ‘lure young fans into your orbit’.
She added that he had taught his victims ‘that love is enslavement and violence’.
