A transgender individual, who was jailed for 14 years for trafficking a 15-year-old girl for sexual services, has filed an appeal.

Josevata (Josie) Werelagi was charged and convicted of one count of aggravated sexual servitude and three counts of domestic trafficking of children.

Werelagi appeared before the Fiji Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Chandana Prematilaka.

He ordered Werelagi’s counsel to file amended grounds on conviction and extension of time for a sentence with submissions by May 6.

The matter will be called for mention on June 17.

Between 18 and 22 July 2015, Werelagi facilitated the transportation of a 15- year-old girl from Nausori to Suva and forced her into providing sexual services to paying customers.

A non-parole period of 10 years was imposed by the High Court in Suva.
