#missingkids | Mom Drops 4-Year-Old Girl Off at NYC Day Care, Forgets — Then Reports Her Missing, Sources Say

A 4-year-old girl who had been reported missing by her mother, who said she got separated from the child in a Manhattan subway station during Wednesday’s morning rush, has been found safe at a day care. And her mom is in custody.

The details of the case surrounding little Kaitlyn Daniels continue to develop. Her mother had walked up to cops near Bloomingdale’s around 8:30 a.m. and told them her daughter disappeared in the Lexington Avenue/59th Street station.

An all-out search was launched for the child. More than three hours later, police said Daniels had been found safe. The mother was taken into custody after allegedly once trying to flee police outside her home, where cops had gone to look for the missing child and found her 12-year-old brother home alone.

He was home because New York City public schools are closed Wednesday for Yom Kippur.

It was after discovering the boy that cops found the missing girl at a home day care. The mother dropped the girl off there and then forgot that she had done so, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the case. She was being questioned by police Wednesday afternoon.
