Statement from the Columbus Police Department:
There is a social media post being shared online in regards to the abduction/kidnapping of a little girl earlier today in Columbus. THIS INFORMATION IS NOT CORRECT. There have been no reported child abductions in Columbus.
CPD is currently investigating a report of a domestic disturbance/battery between two adults involving a red van or SUV in the parking lot of Captain D’s on National Road and a second location earlier today. However, this case does not involve a child. Anyone with information in regards to the reported incident above is urged to contact the Columbus Police Department at 812-376-2600. Tips and information can be left anonymously.
A social media posting alleging a possible kidnapping of a child behind Captain D’s restaurant is false, Columbus police said.
At around noon, a social media posting making the rounds states that someone sitting at Chipotle nearby heard someone screaming in the back of a red van, and when the van was approached, it sped away, leading the poster to say she believed a child was being kidnapped.
Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman, said the department is looking into the incident as a domestic violence incident between two adults and it did not involve the abduction of a child.
The report of the domestic violence incident is also unconfirmed at this time, he said.
