Mom charged with child abuse after video goes viral

Baltimore County police have charged a Middle River woman with child abuse after a video showing two of her children being hit surfaced on social media.

The department says in a news release that 26-year-old Rachel Pietro was arrested Tuesday and charged with child abuse and assault. She is held without bail.

Police say the 22-second video appeared on social media last week. It shows a woman slapping and hitting two young, screaming children.

Investigators say people forwarded the video to police.

Officers say Pietro told them she recorded the video two months ago in hopes that her husband would come home and take care of her.

The woman’s three children, ages 6, 5 and 2, are in the care of relatives.

Court records don’t list a lawyer for Pietro.
