Murder suspect surrenders to Kokomo police

KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) – Kokomo police arrested a man for the murder of a Twilight Alternative School student on Thursday afternoon.

Shane Cooper, 20, was arrested for the shooting death of Donnie Reynolds at the Kokomo Manor Apartment on Elk Drive Thursday morning, according to 24-Hour News 8’s partners at the Kokomo Tribune.

Cooper is accused of shooting Reynolds in the neck around 8 a.m. at the apartment. Cooper and Reynolds were at the apartment visiting others when Cooper shot Reynolds.

Reynolds was transported to Community Howard Regional Health were he later died of his injuries.

Witness told police the suspect fled in a red Dodge pickup truck.

Officers were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Imperial Drive to arrest Cooper. However, Cooper drove to City Hall to surrender to police.

Kokomo School Corp. issued a statement Thursday evening about the shooting death of Twilight Alternative School student Donnie Reynolds.

“The entire Kokomo Schools family mourns the loss of Donnie and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone impacted by this tragic event,” Superintendent Dr. Jeff Hauswald said.

School officials made counselors and other support staff available to students and staff as needed upon learning of Reynolds’ death.

“As director of the Twilight program, I am saddened to learn of this tragic incident,” Mr. Rick Hagenow, director of student support, said after being notified of the incident. “Donnie (Reynolds) was a young man who faced many challenges in his life, but he continued to pursue an education and his high school diploma through the Twilight program. The entire Twilight family sends its condolences to Donnie’s family and friends.”
