Graduating Abbotsford high school students now have the ability to earn two new awards thanks to a partnership between the Abbotsford Community Foundation (ACF) and the board of education.

Every secondary school will see one student with special needs and one student in care receive $1,000.

A total of 18 awards – nine students with special needs and nine students in care – will be handed out. This marks the debut year for these awards.

The focus for both awards are academic and financial needs, and all students meeting the criteria are automatically eligible and considered for these awards.

No specific application is required for these awards; therefore, they should not be included in the maximum 10 awards students may apply for. Recipients are determined by the school counsellors and the ACF Student Awards Committee.

The new board of education student awards were discussed at the most recent meeting on April 13. The next public board meeting takes place May 11.
