New Haven schools staff member arrested for risk of injury to a minor after an incident at Truman School | #teacher | #children | #kids


NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – A New Haven public schools teacher was arrested for an incident involving a student on Wednesday.

New Haven police said officers received a call regarding an assault. When officers arrived, they learned that a teacher, 46-year-old Paul Vercillo, had assaulted a student.

The student sustained minor injuries and was released to his parents.

Vercillo was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor, third-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.

School officials released a statement saying, “The district takes very seriously any incident that poses physical risk to a student. The school and the district are cooperating fully with the investigation by the New Haven Police Department.”

Vercillo was placed on leave while the incident is under investigation.

He is being held on a $20,000 bond.
