Nine candidates file for three seats on Midland Public Schools board | #Education

Seven newcomers are challenging two incumbents for three seats on the Midland Public Schools Board of Education.

Incumbent board members Jonathan Lauderbach, Phillip Rausch and Patrick Frazee have terms expiring in December.

Lauderbach, the current board treasurer, and Rausch, the current vice-president, have filed for reelection. In total, nine people are running for three seats on the seven-member board.

The three candidates with the highest vote count will earn seats on the MPS board. The general election is Nov. 8.

According to the City of Midland Clerk’s Office, Frazee, who was appointed to complete the term of former board member Pam Singer after she moved away from Midland, did not file to run for election. The filing deadline for school board candidates, who fall under the nonpartisan nominating position category by the city, occurred last week. Those who filed had until 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1 to withdraw.

A person is eligible for election to the MPS Board of Education if they are a U.S. citizen and are a qualified, registered elector in the school district by the filing deadline.
