WICHITA, Kansas – North High School, located at 13th and Waco in Wichita, was vandalized sometime Monday into early Tuesday.
According to the principal at the school, the vandals tagged a statue with graffiti. Several windows were also broken out.
A drama teacher noticed the damage while arriving at the school to work on a project with some students.
“He gave me a call and said some damage was done to the building. It is unique. It is not a common occurrence at North. In the 12 years, I’ve been involved with North, this is only a second time that graffiti or damage has been done to the outside of the building to this side of the street,” said Sherman Padgett, North High Principal. “The only disappointment I have is it is taxpayers dollars being wasted.”
There was no damage inside. Only from the broken glass. Crews had already removed the graffiti from the statue.
North High wasn’t in session Tuesday due a scheduled day off. Students return to class Wednesday morning.
The school says they have surveillance video on the outside. They will be looking to see who possibly caused the damage.
