In Paris, a North Lamar Independent School District teacher’s assistant has been fired following her arrest on assault charges. The Paris News reports that April Lynn Farmer, age 37, of Powderly was arrested by Lamar County Sheriff’s deputies on Oct. 26. The Paris News also obtained a copy of the affidavit filed by North Lamar ISD police. The document describes video evidence of Farmer physically abusing three special-needs students at Aaron Parker Elementary School. The Paris News also reports that North Lamar ISD staff were initially unwilling to share documents relevant to the incident and that the newspaper had to file a Texas Public Information Act records request in order to get the arrest report. A statement from North Lamar ISD said Farmer was fired as soon as district administrators reviewed the allegations and documentation. Farmer had been an instructional assistant for North Lamar ISD since August 2019.
