An investigation was launched by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department after allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor by a teacher at Los Alisos Middle School in Norwalk were brought to the administration’s attention, the district said in a statement.
Scott Waln, 60, was arrested May 12 while on the campus, said Lt. John Adams of the Special Victims Bureau.
It was not clear what grade Waln taught, or whether authorities believe the victim attended that school.
“The district has a zero-tolerance policy and is committed to the safety of our students and staff,” school officials said in a statement. “The district will work closely with law enforcement during their investigation.”
Waln was put on administrative leave, district officials said.
Waln has been charged with one count of of lewd acts on a child under 14, and one county of lewd acts on a child by use of force, violence, duress or fear of immediate bodily injury.
