One shot in Albemarle High School shooting, shooter in custody

ALBEMARLE, N.C., Sept. 30 (UPI) — A teen shot one of his fellow students at Albemarle High School Tuesday morning in North Carolina, injuring him before turning himself in to police.

Albemarle Police Chief William Halliburton said officers were called to the school at 7:40 Tuesday morning and found a student with a gunshot wound to the lower extremities.

The suspected shooter, identified as Jalen Russell, apparently got into an argument with a fellow student, Bernard Miller, before the shooting.

Police put the school on lockdown and the suspect dropped the gun and turned himself into police without incident.

The school was closed for the day and parents are being asked to gather at North Albemarle Baptist Church to reunite with their children.

Miller’s condition is unknown.
