Orem Man Arrested For Child Abuse After Shaking 2-Month-Old Son

An Orem man was arrested Sunday for child abuse after admitting he shook his 2-month-old baby, causing serious injuries to the boy.

Lt. Craig Martinez of Orem Police said the father, Brendon Larsen, 22, was arrested after the baby had been admitted to Primary Children’s Hospital with injuries to his brain, hip and shoulder.

“The baby had originally been taken to a hospital outside of Orem but when they determined the incident happened in Orem, we were called,” Martinez said. “The baby was then taken to Primary Children’s Hospital from there.”

In a report, Larsen said he was with the child Saturday and was frustrated with the baby. He said he struck the boy on the back in an attempt to burp him and bounced the child a little roughly on his knee while speaking loudly.

Larson told officers he did not mean to hurt the baby and later admitted he picked up the child and shook him in the air for about a minute.

Larsen was booked into the Utah County Jail for second-degree child abuse, intentionally inflicting serious injury.
