SAN JOSE – A teenager killed in a shooting in San Jose on Wednesday has been identified as Uriel Mendiola Zepeda, 15, of San Jose, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

Officers found Mendiola Zepeda suffering from at least one gunshot wound about 12:20 p.m. when they were called to the 1900 block of Senter Road for a report of a shooting.

Mendiola Zepeda was pronounced dead at the scene. His death marked the city’s 19th homicide of the year.

No suspects have been arrested or publicly identified.

Mendiola Zepeda was returning from an outing with friends to get pizza when he was shot outside his home, according to an online fundraiser organized to cover his funeral costs.

“My youngest son was a very happy kid,” said Maria Elena Emily Zepeda, adding that he was caring, loved his siblings and was “very protective.”
