Police arrested three people suspected of reckless driving and cited 40 others for taking part in a street takeover in Santa Ana on Saturday Jan. 9.

Members of the Santa Ana, Irvine, Garden Grove and Seal Beach police departments caught wind of a street takeover set to take place in the area of 4th Street and Cabrillo Park Drive, and formed a plan, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. Seven units swarmed the area as soon as an Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter spotted two vehicles burning rubber donuts in the intersection.

There were numerous cars blocking the intersection when police arrived to break up the event, Bertagna said. Authorities impounded 23 vehicles, in addition to the 43 people arrested or cited for taking part in the event.

In photos posted to social media, tire marks could be seen in the street while authorities inspected two long rows of vehicles, while several people sat on an adjacent curb waiting to be interviewed by police.
