We all know the more widely talked about menopause symptoms – the hot flushes and sleeping problems.

She told RSVP Live: “When clients sit in front of me, they’re telling me how they’re feeling. It could be that they’re feeling anxious and they don’t really understand why.

“Or they’re talking about these rage spirals and they’re having difficulty in their relationship. Then there’s the very common one that a lot of people know – brain fog.”

Allison said that in many cases, women aren’t even aware that these are symptoms of the menopause, and are at their wit’s end because they don’t know why they don’t feel like themselves.

“I say, this could be hormones and it’s like a lightbulb goes off,” she said. “It’s a really tricky one and it’s why the conversation around the psychological presentation of menopause and perimenopause can really help women realise it may be their hormones playing a part.”

“I think the main thing is beginning to tune into your body more,” said Allison. “There are apps where you can track your symptoms and see if there’s any patterns you begin to notice.

“Step back, and have a look at your life. Are there too many balls in the air? How are you actively engaging in self care? Is there downtime for yourself?”
