Parents, experts meet in town hall after teacher’s aide charged with making child porn

CHARLES COUNTY, Md.  —
Parents and experts are teaming up to talk about sexual assault awareness, weeks after a HIV-positive teacher’s aide was charged with child pornography.

“There are some very angry about how the superintendent and the Charles County school board has been handling things,” said Najala Lockhart.

“Lord we ask that if we see something that doesn’t look right that we let it be known,” said Pastor Fred Caudle.

Caudle prayed for guidance on Tuesday night at the First Baptist Church of St. Charles.
Last month, Bell was charged with making child porn at his home and at the school where he worked.

At least seven middle school boys have been identified as victims.
“We thought it was important for us to do this, because many of us are mothers,” said organizer Abena McAllister.

Among the list of panelists who participated in the forum, were health professionals from the Center for Children, the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health. They shared tips on warning signs that parents should look out for in the new school year.

“We need to use proper names for proper parts,” said Dr. Dianna Abney, who is with Charles County’s Department of Health.

“Most of the cases of child sexual abuse…..are people that the children know,” said Catherine Meyers, who is the Executive Director for the Center for Children Inc
‘Give them a chance to ask questions, give them a space where they are free to ask questions,” said Kim Cook.
