TEMESCAL VALLEY, CA — Three teenage boys were killed and three other teen boys injured when their Toyota crashed into a tree in the Temescal Valley south of Corona, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 10:28 p.m. Sunday at Temescal Canyon Road and Trilogy Parkway, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters used the jaws of life to remove three people from the car, fire officials said. One boy was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said. Two died after transport, the California Highway Patrol said.

Three other teen boys in the car were injured, fire officials said.

One person was detained in connection with the crash, which was a hit- and-run, a CHP dispatcher said.

Authorities told KABC7 that a driver in a second car involved in the crash left the scene, according to the news agency. A person was arrested after CHP officers found the suspect vehicle nearby, parked outside a home. The white Infinity had front end damage, according to KABC7.

One witness followed the suspect vehicle and helped authorities locate it, the news agency reported.

Officers have not said if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Temescal Canyon Road was closed between Squaw Mountain Road and Trilogy Parkway for the CHP’s investigation.
