LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A North Fort Myers man will spend the next 18 years behind bars for having sex with a teenager before she died of an overdose.
Javarus Devon Pointer, now 26, had sex with a teenager on Christmas Day in 2018, according to a news release from the State Attorney’s Office. The girl later overdosed on cocaine and fentanyl.
Another man, Fred Shackleford, is awaiting trial for charges of selling the girl the drugs that killed her.
Pointer will also be on sex offender probation for 12 years after serving his prison sentence. He was found guilty of sexual battery on a helpless victim and promoting a sexual performance by a child, according to the State Attorney’s Office. Pointer will also be labeled as a sexual predator for life.
