HOUSTON – A teenager died early Tuesday after being shot in the head during an argument with his friend, according to police.
The shooting was reported about midnight near the corner of Lindencrest Street and Telephone Road in southeast Houston.
According to police, the 15-year-old victim, who was identified by family members as Guillermo Chino, was hanging out with a 38-year-old friend, later identified by authorities as Damien Desvignes, when the pair got into an argument. The teen was shot in the head during the fight, police said.
Investigators said Desvignes’ wife heard the gunshot, came outside, saw her husband with a gun and called police. Investigators said that was when Desvignes pointed the unloaded gun at his wife and pulled the trigger.
Residents said the teen often hangs out in the neighborhood. Chino’s mother said had spoken to her son about 30 minutes before she heard gunshots.
“After that I didn’t see him,” Maribel Chino said. “I cannot believe this now. I’m destroyed.”
The mother accused Desvignes of selling drugs to her son.
Desvignes told investigators that he believed the teen had broken into his car and stolen money and other items, police said.
Police said Desvignes was charged with both murder and aggravated assault of a family member.
Authorities said Desvignes was out of jail on bail for a burglary charge at the time of the shooting.
