Pasadena’s police oversight commission begins to take shape – Pasadena Star News | #schoolshooting

Pasadena’s fledgling police oversight board got its first three commissioners on Monday, April 26, after the City Council appointed the representatives, nominated by local community organizations.

The first-ever members of the Community Police Oversight Commission are:

  • Florence Annang (of the Pasadena NAACP);
  • Juliana Serrano (of All Saints Church); and
  • Alexis Abernathy (of the Pasadena-Altadena Chapter of The Links).

Annang, Serrano and Abernathy will now become part of an 11-seat commission. The City Council still needs to seat the eight remaining members.

The process was designed so that the first three appointees were nominated by community-based organizations. Annang and Serrano were unanimously recommended by the council’s public safety committee.
