Pervert Scout leader convicted of downloading child porn had boys’ underpants in bedroom

A pervert Scout leader caught with boys’ underpants in his bedroom and hundreds of indecent images of children on his computer could be handed a prison term.

Maths teacher Elliot Easterby, 44, who had a ‘sexual interest in boys’ was convicted after officers swooped on his home in Hamble, Hampshire, last year following a tip-off from police in Canada.

Searches of his computer, a hard drive and three memory sticks uncovered 669 indecent images of boys.

Officers also found DVDs showing boys in paddling pools titled ‘Water Wiggles’ and ‘More Water Wiggles’ and ‘Even More Water Wiggles’.

The community figure taught at Sholing Technology College in Southampton – the same school as former teacher Edmund Warbrick, 48, who earlier this month admitted owning child and animal porn.

Police raided the former parish councillor’s home in the early hours after they were contacted by their Canadian counterparts hunting for suspected paedophiles online.

Easterby was flagged up after the officers ‘uncovered possible offences as part of a large-scale international operation’.

The day after the police raid, Easterby quit his role on Hamble Parish Council, on which he sat for four years, citing personal reasons.

He sobbed in the dock at Southampton Crown Court as a jury convicted him of 13 offences of possessing and making indecent images of young boys in less than an hour.

He was cleared of a further charge.

Judge Peter Henry said: “I am troubled by the fact that a large number of pairs of boys’ underpants were found in his bedroom and I am troubled by the fact that there were searches on the internet of this type.

“It seems to me that this goes directly to a sexual interest in boys.”

Judge Henry told him ‘all options are open’ as he bailed Easterby ahead of sentencing on March 13.

Of the 669 indecent images police found, almost 300 pictures had been viewed on the computer and deleted and another 375 had been downloaded and stored.

He accepted owning and making the images but denied they were indecent.

Easterby was a former leader at Hamble Sea Scouts and author of several ‘teenage ghost books’ about the ghosthunting adventures of two boys called Chris and Tom.

Easterby was held in high regard in the Hamble community in his time serving as a parish councillor and lead a youth group with a role in local politics.

Hamble parish councillor Michael Davies said the community had been rocked by the revelations about such a well-known figure.

He said: “It becomes an even bigger shock that he’s somebody standing above the parapet to be a councillor and a stalwart in the Sea Scouts.

“When something like this comes out it’s very sad.”

Easterby was runner-up in Eastleigh Borough Council’s 2012 Sports Awards for senior volunteer of the year, recognising his Sea Scouting work.

The Scout Association, condemning his actions, said: “Easterby was suspended from any form of contact with the movement as soon as police began their investigations and he has since been dismissed.”

Ahead of sentencing, Easterby was handed an interim sexual offences prevention order, banning him from using devices to access the internet where history can be deleted or where images can be stored.
