Phil Luker Jr.

Phil Luker Jr. was born April 24, 1941, in Graham. He moved with his parents, Phil and Clara Luker, to Decatur when he was 3 years old.

He attended Decatur schools all 12 grades, graduating high school in 1959.

Phil attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth for two years before starting the Wise Times newspaper in Decatur in 1961.

He was owner and editor for the next 29 years.

Phil was a member of the Decatur Chamber of Commerce where he served as a director. He was also vice president of the Wise County Reunion Board for many years and also was a member of the Decatur Rotary Club where he served as president in 1980.

Phil also served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in California and Turkey.

Phil hosted a “Rock+Roll Revival Show” on KWCS radio station in Bridgeport for four years on Sunday nights in the 1980s.

Phil enjoyed sports, music and movies.

He is survived by his wife, Dannes of Krum; son Phil Luker III of Fort Worth; daughter Clare Janelle Luker of Dallas; and granddaughter Lindy Claire Luker of Fort Worth.
