Police identify suspect in fatal shooting of Landry-Walker High School student

New Orleans police are looking for a 19-year-old man they say fatally shot a Landry-Walker High School student Monday morning (Jan. 26). The man has been identified as Kareem Richards.

Police say Richards was developed as a suspect through witness participation. Authorities say he will be charged with one count of second degree murder after he’s apprehended.

NOPD did not provide any details about a possible motive.

Police say Richards is responsible for the shooting death of a 17-year-old student, whose name has not been released. The teen was fatally shot around 7:45 a.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Forest Park Apartments in Algiers.

NOPD spokesman Garry Flot said the Landry-Walker student sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly after being transported to Interim LSU hospital.
