UTICA — A Utica police officer was recognized for his charity this week after buying sneakers for a student at Proctor High School, according to the Utica Police Department.

Authorities said Officer Wesley Jackson broke up a fight at Proctor High School this week after a student with special needs had been targeted. Police said Jackson helped calm the victim after the fight and noticed that the boy was in need of adequate clothes and shoes.

Officer Jackson then reached out to his own friends and family for help, and together they bought clothing and several pairs of sneakers for the boy, police stated. Jackson dropped off the new gear at the boy’s home after his shift on Wednesday — which, coincidentally, was the boy’s birthday.

The boy’s mother shared his good deed on social media and alerted Jackson’s supervisors at the Utica Police Department about his deed.
