UTICA — A student at Proctor High School in Utica was stabbed during a fight with another student on school grounds on Monday, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said school resources officers were notified of the fight at about 12:30 p.m. Monday. Police said a 15-year-old boy had suffered a small puncture wound to his stomach during the fight, caused by a small knife.

Police said the teen was treated at the scene by school medical staff and did not require outside medical attention.

An investigation was launched and police said they identified the attacker and recovered the knife. Police said criminal charges are expected, and the student was disciplined by the school district as well.

The identities of those involved were not released due to their young ages. Police said the fight was an isolated incident and the greater student body and faculty were not in danger.

Police said future criminal charges will be handled through Family Court.

Police said security was enhanced at all three secondary schools in Utica as a result of the fight.
